Past Craft

At one time this was a bottle of Aunt Jemimah syrup...
This was a gift from my mama in 1988. That was 20 years ago. She bought it at the Minister's Wives Retreat for the South Georgia Conference at Epworth By The Sea. It was painted by Sunshine Bird.
For many years we used this as a doorstop. It is filled with sand from Georgia. Lots of memories, lots of history...
My question is - WHAT DO I DO WITH IT NOW? It does not go with anything I have. I don't need a door stop and I don't have anywhere to display it.
I'm sure that it would not mean much to anyone else but our family since it has no history with them and it's one time beauty and usefulness has faded.
What do you do with treasures like these in your lives? I seriously need wisdom and advice! I have a garage FULL of such things! I would LOVE to be able to park my car in my garage (and so would hugsum!)

OOOo, I know, I know...the Posey crew needs to start a dirty Santa game at Christmas and this can be the off wall gift that comes back every year. Who ever ends up with it, gets to entertain her in their house for the following year and then bring it back the following year. Our SS class did this with a pink ceramic pig statue. Best of Luck!

Here is my 2cents worth Aunt Merrie... I say take a picture of all the things that have some kind of meaning. Make a SMALL scrapbook out of the pictures with descriptions of their story and then throw the boxes of junk out! haha And if it isn't worth the time to take and print a picture then just toss it! I say if it has been wrapped up in a box through more than one move then it probably isn't worth keeping anyway. Can't take it with ya when you go!! ;)

I like Betsy's idea. That way you will always have the reminder of the memory and isn't the story and memory behind it much more valuable anyway? Great idea. We can help. I am volunteering myself and beka.....yep...you are in on it beka, he he he.

After you put the picture in your scrapbook (I would never get around to doing that - it would just have to exisit in my memory), I would sell it on ebay. If it happens to be worth something to someone, you'll at least have some money in your pocket for it.

Yeah, this is so hard, isn't it? I have many things I've kept because they are part of our "history". BUT I am trying to do as the poster above suggests...take a picture and put it on eBay. If no one in the family wants it, then it's OK to let it go. These are the words I'm trying to live by myself.

Hope you're well.

Wow, these people are hard-core divesters! I'd have trouble letting go. If I were your relative, I'd receive it gladly (she said, smirking at the other ingrate relatives!) :) Ha
