Monday Mission

I sure hope you had a good weekend.

We did. It was not busy for me, but it was for hugsum. He loves, loves, LOVES ministry! He loves, loves, LOVES to visit people and see people come to Jesus. He gets so excited sharing the Gospel. It doesn't matter what he does, he is always sharing.

When he has that passion for his mission, then "sub"mission is not that hard. Submission has been billed as being an ugly word. But, it really is just "coming up under in agreement with" someone else's mission. When the mission is clear and true, then submission is easy and contagious.

Just thought I'd share....

Thursday Plans

They have PROMISED to fix our air conditioning!!!! Can I say how thankful I am for a/c???? I PLAN to get it fixed!

Man, it has been sooooo hot! I have been extremely lethargic and grumpy! I have wanted to eat my way through a mountain of ice cream!

The pool has been so nice and I have enjoyed it! It is tempting to walk around in my bathing suit all the time - or better yet, just veg in the water.

Also, we PLAN to have an electrician come and give us an estimate on installing canned lights in the kitchen and living room. We had some very outdated ceiling arrangement and we took that down and that left some real ugly florescent light fixtures. As soon as we get the canned lights in then we can paint the ceiling - it SURE does need it!

Then, I PLAN to go to the dentist. Hugsum found one that uses our insurance plan. He had his teeth cleaned on Tuesday and I get mine done on Thursday. They certainly do need it!

I also PLAN to continue to unpack and put up things and settle in more.

I SHOULD plan to paint, but I'm waiting until I have some cool air around me! Paint and sweat do not mix!

Wonderful Wednesday!

The sun came up ...

God is on His Throne ...

All is right with the world!

Mama

My mama is in the hospital. She is 86. She fell several weeks ago and banged up her head. There is blood between the skull and brain. There is swelling in the brain.

She also has cystitis. She is talking jibberish. She can not form words. She won't eat or drink anything. She cries all the time.

Today was better.

They are in Atlanta. I am not.

Too Hard Tuesday!

Today has been hard.

Last night I "suggested" that we get up real early and turn off the electricity and install our ceiling fans and also some of the old plugs and switches. We still don't have any a/c... this is three weeks. In the early morning it is nice and cool so it is a good time to cut off the attic fan and do the electrical work.

Beka did not have to be at class until noon, so she was coming about 11 and feeding the kids and then putting them down for their nap.

I thought we had PLENTY of time to get done what we needed...

It didn't turn out as we planned.

Thankfully (for me), she got here early. Hugsum is just "learning" to be handy and we were having some "difficulty" communicating and working together. We approach things in such a different way... well, nuff said!

Beka came and saved the day and helped her daddy get the fan up - sure saved some words that did not need to be said and well - just made life easier!

On top of that, the a/c was supposed to be fixed today. I hung around in the heat (attic fan pulling in air that is over 90 makes house over 90!) About 4 I decided to call to see what time they were coming. I called... they answered, I identified myself and asked what time they were coming to fix a/c. The girl flippantly said, 'ummm I don't know" and put me on hold for 5 minutes. I hung up and called back - the same conversation with the same results... I hung up and called back the third time - SAME EXACT thing happened. So, I hung up and called the fourth time. A man answered then and stuttered and stammered and "promised" to be here on Thursday.

I did not cry. I did not cuss. I did not jump up and down and scream. I sure did want to though.

Friday, we head back up to our pastorate for the weekend. Thankfully, it has air conditioning.

Monday Mumblings...

Thank you for all the response to my last blog. I really did not mean to make people feel guilty. I just wanted to hear from people - and I did. Thanks!

I am still in the middle of painting. I did finish the hall tonight. That is a great accomplishment! I will need to go back and touch-up the trim a little, but I still have much more painting to do so I can do it without too much trouble.

All I have left is two bathrooms, two bedrooms and the laundry room and the closets MAY get painted. This has taken too long already! But, it is really looking good and I am pleased with it.

Yesterday we had a great day! We had a good group of worshipers. (I would say "crowd", but it was not crowded!) We had one young man to be baptized.

When we left to come south we got a call asking if we could keep our oldest grandaughter (2 years old) from 4 til 7. Of course, we would!

Then, our oldest son asked us to keep our youngest grandaughter (3 months) at 7:30 for them to have a date night. We got to go to their house for that!

Then we got a call from our youngest daughter asking if they could come swimming and bring her brother and sister-in-law... of COURSE!

And as we were getting off the turnpike, our oldest daughter called to say they were on their way to the pool.

Sooooo... we got to see and visit with every one of our kids! Can I say again and again that I am blessed and so happy to be where we are! God is good. He has answered our prayers exceedingly abundantly above what we could have asked for!

Blogging

I love blogging. It is probably one of my favorite things to do. Write my own and read other's blogs. I try to leave comments on other's blogs. Sometimes, I just have time to quickly read the blog and think I will get back and leave a comment.

I love getting comments because it helps me to know that others are reading and to get their thoughts. That's why I like to leave comments.

It has come to my attention that I have readers who keep up with my life by reading my blog. This is good and I appreciate it.

I have also noticed that I don't get as many personal emails anymore. I realized that people are reading my blog and keeping up with me, but not letting me know what's going on it their lives.

If you happen to be one of those ... PLEASE, let me know about your life. I am far away from home and need to hear about you. I long for communication and updates.... thanks...

(was that pitiful enough to make you want to leave a comment or email me?)

Family Reunion

Today, in Georgia, we are having the Bennett Cousin Reunion! What fun!!!!

The only thing is, I'M NOT THERE!!!! :(

Last fall my sister said she was planning to have the reunion on the weekend of Grandmama Bennett's birthday. I think it would have been her 103rd. We always got together for her birthday when she was alive and we haven't since she died in 1981. I've missed seeing the cousins.

We used to all gather at Grandmama's house for Thanksgiving and Christmas. She had a very small 4 room house with no plumbing - well, outdoor (outhouse and pump). But it was always fun and we loved it.

During the summer we would go visit for a couple of weeks. There were three of us girls about the same age and we were close... me, Sharon and Loretta... Grandmama always wanted us there during revival week.

It was lots of fun. We would have 10 cents a day to spend at the store. We would walk to the store and spend our dime. We could get a coke, (generic for "pop", "soda", "soft drink" for all you non-southerners) and then lots of penny candy. We would all try to be the one to have the "last piece" so that we could make the others jealous. I never won - I always just ATE mine!

Grandmama lived right across the street from the railroad tracks. The Nancy Hanks stopped there. We knew what time it was according to when the train ran. You could get on the Nancy Hanks and ride to Atlanta and back. We got in trouble if we walked on the tracks, but that was so much fun! We loved "walking the tight rope" and pretended to be in the circus.

Well, so much for walking down memory lane. I'd love to be there with the cousins. May parents will be there too. Mama is the oldest living Bennett. All her brothers and sisters but one have gone on - Uncle Bucky, and he will also be there. He is the youngest Bennett sibling out of 7. His six children won't be making the trip from Washington state, but I think that almost all of the other cousins will be there.

Can you tell I'm missing it? Can you tell that I would love to be there and see everyone? I'm sure that we all look the same as we did growing up - or the last time we saw each other. HAHA - age has certainly not changed us. I think that we are all 50 at least!

A couple of years ago I was at Aunt Caroline's funeral and her four sons were there. I did not even recognize them! Many other cousins were there too. I recognize some of them - but had to ask about others.

We were all very close growing up. We gathered often for celebrations and holidays. We gathered for grief and comfort. We were a very close family.

My own children have not had that close cousin relationship. I'm sorry for them. But, they wanted it for their children. That is why we have all made monumental sacrifices to live close together - so that we CAN be close and spend time. Those childhood memories are priceless. Those relationships are timeless.

Wish I could be in Georgia with the cousins.... thankful that I am where I am forming new family memories to be cherished.

Something New!

Tonight Rebekah made something new...
we found the recipe on Southern Girls Home Cookin blog...

We have been wanting to try it for a long time, just never had all the ingredients and time at the same time...

It is Chicken Lettuce Wraps.... oh my goodness!!!!! That is all I can say about them. So good and so easy (especially when someone else does the cooking :) )

They are LITERALLY AAAHHHHMAAAZZZING!!! They are very close to PF Changs!

Chicken Lettuce Wraps Ingredients:
head of lettuce and use the large 3-6 outside layers
1 pound chicken breast diced up into small pieces
1 large onion -- chopped
2 tablespoons minced garlic
1 tablespoon reduced-sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
2 teaspoons minced fresh ginger
1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar or red wine vinegar
dash red pepper
1 can (8 ounce size) sliced water chestnuts -- drained, finely chopped
2 teaspoons Asian sesame oil
Chinese rice noodles

Directions:Rinse lettuce leaves, keeping them whole. Set aside to drain.
Cook chicken in a large skillet over medium heat, stirring often to break up the meat.Add onion, garlic, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, ginger, vinegar and red pepper. Cook until the meat is crumbled and brown. Add water chestnuts. Cook about 2 minutes. Stir in sesame oil. Arrange lettuce leaves on the outer edge of a platter. Spoon meat mixture in center. Eat like a taco. Top with the rice noodles.

We may have to make a family night of it and have some other good things with it. Rebekah also found a great recipe for fried rice that was a great compliment to the meal.

If you have any great Chinese recipes, let me know!

"Who Knew?" Wednesday

When we bought our house a couple of things came with it that I really didn't care about, a pond and a bird feeder. In fact, several of the houses we looked at boasted of a "koi pond". My thoughts were ... "WHY? would anyone want a koi (goldfish) pond?????" In my wildest dreams I never imagined wanting one - or caring about it...

Well.... who knew???

The former owners left us a gift of goldfish in our pond.

I said "thank you", but was not real excited, really, I mean - something else to feed and take care of and besides in the winter when it ices and snows... what about these fish??? Would they freeze to death? I found out that at 55 degrees they go into hibernation and go to the bottom of the pond for the winter... WHO knew these things???

I have gotten attached to those fish. Every day I go out with the grandkids and feed the fish and watch them eat and swim around. I have gotten more and count them everyday to make sure they are all there.

The bird feeder is old and not real attractive, but our daughter found it a stuck it in front of our dining room windows. So, I felt obligated to get some seed so Papa and Noah could put it out for the birds. (having had cats for a long time, i really didn't expect them to come around. Much to my surprise, I find myself watching for the birds. We have a couple of sets of redbirds and a bunch of other little birds that flock (yes, pun intended) to the feeder.

I realized that since we are "retired" we are taking on the habits of older people... feeding fish and birds and loving it.... who knew getting old was fun?

So, my time is spent loving on grandchildren, planting and watering flowers, feeding goldfish, watching birds, digging up worms (man, there are some REAL long ones here) for Noah to play with and to feed the fish. Did I tell you that the other day I went out to the pond and there was a fish swimming around with half a worm hanging out of his mouth. (wish I had had my camera then!)

Well, as I age I'll write more...

I'm thankful for the gifts I received - even though at the time I was not. Our blessings overtake us... only sometimes, we don't realize they are blessings until later...

Decorating Dilemma

I have this nice mirror that I got from my parents home in Baxley, GA. For years I have loved it and hung it in a special place in my home

Because of the way that it is made, when it is hung, this is what you see. It is not very attractive ...... so, I have hung some silk ivy over the hook to cover it up. I did it again in our new home while hugsum was out of town. When he returned, he asked me PLEASE do not put the ivy over it because it reminds him of "old" people - like a man with a toupee stuck on top of his head - like this ...
... so, I sweetly removed the ivy and placed this on it...
he didn't like that either... imagine that!

so, what do YOU do to cover up?

Weekend Celebration -

or... the Father's Day of His Dreams...

All the kids, spouses and grandkids were here!

Father's Day

I wanted to take the time to thank all the "Fathers" in my life.

I have been blessed to have a very godly earthly father. He has been such a blessing to me and our entire family - both immediate and extended. Everyone he meets, he blesses.

I also have a very godly husband who is the father of my children and has been a huge spiritual influence on my life and the lives of our children and grandchildren. He has blessed me abundantly in so many many ways.

I also have very godly sons and sons-in law. They have also influenced my life and blessed me tremendously.

All these men, are heads of their homes. They are spiritual kings, priests and prophets and providers. They are blessed and they bless others.

What a blessing, what a heritage!

10 Most Healing Verses of the Hebrew Bible

Wisdom and comfort from ancient scriptureFrom Exodus to Isaiah to the Psalms and Proverbs, the Hebrew Bible is rich with verses of healing and comfort for the sick. May health and healing be yours.

1. God's Healing Words Proverbs 4:20-22My child, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh.

2. God the Master Physician Exodus 15:26He said, "If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in his sight, and give heed to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will not bring upon you any of the diseases that I brought upon the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you."

3. God's Healing Love Psalm 107:19-21Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress; he sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from destruction. Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wonderful works to humankind.

4. God Removes Sickness Exodus 23:25You shall worship the Lord your God, and I will bless your bread and your water; and I will take sickness away from among you.

5. Turn Away from Illness Deuteronomy 7:14-15You shall be the most blessed of peoples, with neither sterility nor barrenness among you or your livestock. The Lord will turn away from you every illness.

6. 'You Have Healed Me' Psalm 30:2O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me.

7. A Promise of Healing Isaiah 53:4-5Surely he has borne our infirmities and carried our diseases; yet we accounted him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the punishment that made us whole, and by his bruises we are whole.

8. A Merrie Heart Will Heal Proverbs 17:22A cheerful heart is a good medicine, but a downcast spirit dries up the bones.

9. The Many Blessings of God Psalm 103:2-5 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits--who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the Pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good as long as you live so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

10. Find Refuge in God Psalm 91:3-4For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence; he will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.

Decorating Lesson Learned #2...

When painting woodwork - that is actually wood and it needs to be primed... make SURE that you use the right product.

I mistakenly used a primer for UNfinished wood instead of a primer for oil based surfaces...

It is a bad thing - it takes hours and HOURS and lots and lots of scrubbing and undoing to fix it.

Fortunately, I found out my mistake before I painted EVERYTHING... I realized it when the paint that I was putting over the primer kept rolling up and falling off. HUMMMMMM dummy me just kept painting and painting and REpainting.

Now, I'm scrubbing and scrubbing and scrapping and scrapping - my hands hurt, my arms hurt, my back hurts.

Hope you learn something here and never make the same mistake.

New Find

I found a couple of patches of these in my "other" yard...
... not sure whether to eat them or not - probably not. But... I sure do love strawberries!

We have officially "moved" into our parsonage. We will be here a couple of days a week. I have LOTS of time to catch up on my rest, my studies, my crocheting, my prayer times - and did I mention rest? Hugsum is busy visiting and doing "pastor work". I am here to support.
What kinds of things do you do to support your husband in his work?

Thursday Three

1. We are "moving" again... that makes our THIRD truck loaded! When I say "moving" I don't mean like living there all the time. I mean that we are serving a church part-time and they have a parsonage. That means that we need "stuff" there so we can stay there a few days a week. Hence, ANOTHER truck and ANOTHER move...

2, I got my plants back today. Here are a few of thems...
It was like old friends returning home. Several weeks ago we made a trip up with some things and I brought all my house plants up to Rebekah to "babysit" until we got moved/settled in. I wanted to "baby" them and I knew that if I waited for them to be on one of our trucks, they would be destroyed - or left (like what happened to so many of my plants the last move).

3. I feel like my house is finally beginning to take some shape and I'm able to find things and live here. For awhile, it was chaos here (and that is a mild understatement).
This is a picture of some peace and love and joy...
I still have lots of painting to do. I did a horrible job of painting hugsum's office and it needs a 2nd coat before he can begin to unpack and organize it. Then I have the other bedrooms and bathrooms and hall and laundry room and garage - THEN I'll be finished painting the inside... Oh, I forgot the kitchen. We are having canned lights installed today - then I will paint the ceiling and walls. Whew! I've worn myself out!

Wanna come help???? I could sure use some help unloading the truck, painting, unpacking, watering all those plants.... but a nice swim is sure to follow

Lesson Learned

When you bake chocolate chip cookies, do not give a warm one, with soft chocolate chips to a toddler who loves to put her precious little hands on the newly painted walls....

Sorry that I already washed the walls... would have been a priceless picture!
